Sociology 305 is a seminar for senior Sociology majors. The
course is organized around the theme "Interpreting America"
in order to provide illustrations of research issues with
reference to familiar social and cultural aspects of
America, broadly defined. Students will be encouraged to
develop their own thinking and research in relation to this
broad topic.
The purpose of the Sociology 305 seminar is to help
Sociology majors develop their senior essay or thesis
projects by introducing them to the technical challenges and
practical problems of sociological research. To this end
invited speakers will discuss their own research. The
seminar meetings will be devoted primarily to helping
students advance their own research projects.
MAJOR READINGS
To be announced.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Weekly research explorations
plus literature review; research proposal, research project
(multiple drafts), oral presentation, regular participation
and perfect attendance. The final paper will be a completed
senior essay.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Students must be
Sociology majors working on senior essays, no other majors
will be accepted.
Attendance is required.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
