The Gogolian Tradition in Russian Literature

The course will define the artistic universe of Gogol, and trace the way in which the Gogolian legacy--marked by stylistic excrescence, a flair for the grotesque, and the incursion of the demonic into a superficially realistic discourse--has been inherited and adapted by later Russian writers such as Bely, Bulgakov, and Sinjavsky.
