Introduction to Cognitive Psychology PSYC220 SP

This course introduces the core themes of cognitive psychology, the subdiscipline that seeks to discover and understand processes of human thought. The focus will be on how we acquire and use information and knowledge. We will first trace the path that shaped cognitive psychology into what it is today, and then discuss contemporary theories and data concerning how information (knowledge) is encoded, stored, and utilized when we perceive, remember, think, and solve problems.

MAJOR READINGS

One textbook in Cognitive Psychology and
several articles from research journals.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Three examinations and several assignments.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

This a core course in the Cognitive area. PSYC105 is recommended. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
