Electronics for Nonscientists: Inside the Computer

A laboratory course in digital electronics designed to give the student first hand experience in this important area of modern technology. Basic concepts of electrical current and voltage will be covered, as well as fundamentals of Boolean logic. These ideas will then be combined in the construction of electrical circuits to carry out logic operations. Finally, simple digital computers based on Z-80 microprossors will be constructed. Emphasis is given to hands-on work in the lab. We will also discuss some aspects of the technology involved in the integrated circuits so important in the personal computer explosion. No previous physics is assumed.
