Main emphasis on the teachings of Plato and Aristotle. The
focus is on metaphysics, philosophy of nature, and ethics,
as well as on the differing views about philosophical
inquiry and argument.
MAJOR READINGS
Plato, EUTHYPHRO, APOLOGY, CRITO, PHAEDO,
MENO, REPUBLIC; Aristotle, CATEGORIES, sections of the
POSTERIOR ANALYTICS, PHYSICS, METAPHYSICS; ETHICS.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
One or two short (5 page) and
one longer (8-10 page) final paper.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Those who register for Section 02 will have additional
assignments at a higher degree of difficulty. Texts should
be read in advance of the class meeting in which they are
discussed.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
