Music 474 is a two-semester ensemble course in Afro-Cuban
music, including performance on bata drums used in sacred
contexts and on other percussion instruments, and the study
of the social, historical, and cultural context of the
music. Associated choral singing will also be taught.
Readings, recordings, and video viewing supplement in-class
instruction. The ensemble will present public
performances.

Attendance is
required.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
