The principal drum used in the performance of classical South Indian music and dance. Beginning students will learn the fundamentals of technique and will study the formation of phrases with stroke combinations. Advanced classes will be a continuation of lessons in a variety of talas. Individual classes.

MAJOR READINGS

Compositions and/or exercises are presented
orally or in notation. Through practice, students master
the assignments from one lesson to the next.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Daily practice of lessons, memorization of technical exercises and rhythmic compositions.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Strict attendance is compulsory. Admission by interview. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
