Photo Caption and Credits
We use the poems of Emily Dickinson as a point of
reference. We prepare our imaginations for engaging the
musical traditions of the world by investigating the common
ground of those traditions through performing art that is
musical. The content of the course consists entirely of
art, in the broadest sense, that we ourselves invent and
perform. We listen to no recordings and we read no books.
We are a community of musical investigators. No previous
formal training in music or art is required. Those with
such training will find it irrelevant to the work.
MAJOR READINGS
Many handouts.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Attendance is mandatory.
Serious, intense engagement with the compositional and
performance work of the group is essential. Students will
compose a series of exercises. There will be no
examinations or quizzes.

preregistered students attend the first class meeting or
communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first
