Set Theory: "Definition" of the cardinal sum, product, and , exponentiation; the Schroder-Bernstein theorem; some of Cantor's theorems (e.g., |Q| < |R|, |A| < |P(A)|; the continuum problem. Metric space topology: Definitions, compactness criteria, completion; applications. Beyond metric spaces: If time permits and there is student demand.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

One hour exam, one three-hour final examination, 8-10 homework assignments.

Criteria for admission to course: Successful completion of MATH222 or the equivalent is desirable, though not mandatory if other credentials are in order.
