Introductory Calculus, Part I

Next Offered in 9899 SP

Designed for students with sound pre-calculus skills, and limited or no prior experience with Calculus. The course will treat the differentiation and integration of algebraic, exponential and logarithmic functions, with applications to other disciplines; theory will be treated lightly. MATH117 is potentially terminal, though its sequel, MATH118, is offered. Students who do well in MATH117 may proceed to MATH122.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Frequent homework, 2 or 3 hour examinations and a final examination.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Students who have had a year of calculus in high school should not take MATH117. MATH117 is not open to anyone who scored 3 or better on either (AB or BC) AP Calculus exam. Students may not get credit for more than one of MATH115, MATH117, and MATH121.
