Basic Calculus I (With Precalculus)

Designed for students with adequate skills in high-school algebra, limited familiarity with precalculus topics, and no prior exposure to Calculus. About half the semester will be devoted to preliminary topics in algebra, geometry and graphing. The second half of the semester will, together with Math 116, treat the differentiation and integration of algebraic, exponential and logarithmic functions, with applications to other disciplines. Theory will be treated lightly. Attendance in class is required.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Six in-class examinations. A final exam of three hours. Weekly homework required.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

This course is the first of the two-semester sequence Math 115-116. This sequence parallels the sequences Math 117-118, and Math 121-122, whose descriptions should be compared.
