Fourth semester, final preparatory class. Ordinarily the
end of formal grammar review within the first three to four
weeks of class. Class designed to maximally develop
language skills of all kinds: oral production, aural
comprehension, written expression, reading comprehension.
Three classroom periods (MWF) with instructor, one with
course assistant (either Tue or Thur) for drill and
conversation. Days and times for TA sessions will be
announced first week of class.
MAJOR READINGS
Insieme: AN INTERMEDIATE ITALIAN COURSE
IN TERZA PAGINA
Short fiction of Moravia, Benni, Collodi, Ginzburg, Morante,
and others.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Some quizzes (especially at
the beginning of the semester), weekly readings and short
papers, final paper (4-6 pages). Class presentations. Oral
interview at midterm and at final periods. Weekly oral and
written assignments, including lab manual and workbook.
Diary entries five times weekly. One Italian cultural or
related activity weekly.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Only placement test
scores from the current year are acceptable.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
