A historical approach to understanding the attempt to
exterminate the Jews of Europe between 1941 and 1945,
together with its background and long-term consequences.
The course focuses especially on Germany, where the attempt
originated, and Eastern Europe, where most of its intended
victims lived and where the ghettos and killing programs
were established; but attention is also paid to the varying
fates of the Jews elsewhere in occupied Europe, such as
France.
