Class discussion will focus on major concerns of current Homeric scholarship, among them theories of oral composition, the epic tradition in Greek literature, Homeric society and values, the nature of Homeric heros, Homeric myth and religion.

MAJOR READINGS

Selections from Homer's ODDYSSEY in Greek,
and the remainder in English translation, along with some
modern critical essays.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
