Seminar in Translation

A group exploration of the art and craft of translation. Some attention will be a given to translation theory. Texts from different genres and of varing degrees of difficulty will be worked on by all members of the class, who will compare and discuss their renderings. Each student will then choose a special project, to be discussed with the instructor in individual sessions. Ideal goal: a group anthology of publishable pieces.

MAJOR READINGS

To be arranged at the beginning of the
semester by consensus.

Weekly assignments; one final project

Students should be fluent in German and have excellent reading skills.
