Women and Literature in France: The second half of the century
FREN228 SP
Crosslistings: WMST228
Next Offered in 9899 SP
This course investigates the writings of women in France
since the publication of Simone de Beauvoir's LE DEUXIEME
SEXE in 1949. Through a study of novels and poems by women
writers such as Beauvoir, Mansour, Duras, Cardinal, Redonnet
we will explore the role of politics, psychoanalysis and the
question of memory in women's writing, as well as the themes
of maternity, sexuality, the relationship between the public
and the private. In a more sociological perspective, we
will also determine the influence of feminism on literature.
