Rebel Without a Cause/Sweet Little Sixteen: The Social Construction of The Teenager In American Culture, 1948-64

This course studies the social construction of the teenager
in the America of the forties, fifties, and sixties through
music, fiction, film and journalism in an attempt to
understand why postwar America constructs this category and
defines it as a consumer culture.

This is a seminar
in which students shall undertake individual research.
Applying students should be prepared to indicate the areas
