A writing course focusing on biography as a mode of
knowledge as well as an art form. Some great biographies of
past and present will be read. Students will be trained to
write biography. Format will be that of a writing workshop
and seminar.
MAJOR READINGS
Will include:
Geoffrey Wolff, THE DUKE OF DECEPTION
Strachey, EMINENT VICTORIANS
Gosse, FATHER AND SON
Julian Barnes, FLAUBERT'S PARROT
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Weekly writing assignments
for six weeks, then 30 pages in three installments. Also,
an oral report.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Each student will
choose one person to write about, probably a parent.
Admission by interview on Sept. 8 and 9, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.,
in Room 305 of 285 Court Street. Limited to English majors.
