ENGL271
Defining a Literary Decade: The American 1930s and the Problem of Periodization
ENGL271 SP
Next Offered in 9899 SP
Is there an American "Literature of the 30s"? Commonly
thought of as the era of social protest literature, the
1930s also saw the publication of historical romance,
hard-boiled detective fiction, and modernist writing. This
course questions the very notion of a literary period by
examining a variety of works that were produced during the
Great Depression.
