A survey of European and American drama from 1920 to the present. Historical overview combined with close textual analysis. Class will split into small groups for weekly discussions.

MAJOR READINGS

Plays by Brecht, Pirandello, Lorca, Beckett,
Baraka, Wilson, Williams, Miller, O'Neil, Hellman and
others.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two papers; quizzes; final.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
