Photo Caption and Credits

Introduction to the study of Earth and the geologic processes shaping man's natural environment. Topics include earth materials, how volcanoes work, time in geologic perspective, interpreting the landscape, the behavior of groundwater, glaciers and the Ice Ages, architecture of Earth's crust, earthquakes and Earth's interior, and the plate tectonic synthesis. Approximately every other week, an afternoon laboratory or field trip (required) illustrates lecture material and examines the geology of the Middletown area.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two hour exams, final exam and four written exercises done in lab sections.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

The course meets in small sections for four or five afternoon laboratory meetings and two afternoon field trips during the semester. Attendance at these is required. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. Note: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
