The uses of mathematical argument in extending the range,
depth, and precision of economic analysis are explored. The
central goal of the course is to promote sophistication in
translating the logic of economic problems into tractable
and fruitful mathematical models. Particular attention is
paid to the analysis of optimization and strategic
interaction. Interested students should have some
familiarity with the tools of calculus and linear algebra.
