Photo Caption and Credits
An introduction to dance as an educational, technical, and
creative discipline. Classes will introduce dance
technique--stretching, strengthening, aligning the body, and
developing coordination in the execution of rhythmic
movement patterns--as well as improvisation, composition
and performance. The course will include readings in dance
theory, history, ethnology, therapy and the relation of
dance to physics, religion, language, and the other arts.
Written assignments, attendance at dance concerts, biweekly
student discussion groups, and periodic open book exams are
required. For students with no previous dance training.

Selected articles and excerpts on a wide range of topics
pertaining to dance and the arts.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Short papers, short
compositional projects in movement, attendance at three
dance concerts. Biweekly discussion groups, four open book
exams
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
May be repeated for
credit with a different instructor with the permission of
the instructor. Permission of Instructor is required for
In-Semester registration only. Preregistered students must
attend a short conference with the instructor on the Monday
or Tuesday before classes begin in the fall and attend the
first class meeting or communicate directly with the
instructor prior to the first class, or they will be dropped
from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a
completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
This is an ampersand course with DANC110.
