Main focus is on social inquiry as a way of understanding
oneself and others: of what does such understanding consist?
How is it possible (if at all)? Of what value (if any) is
it? Within this focus subsidiary but related questions
concerning objectivity, relativism and truth will be
addressed.
MAJOR READINGS
Works of modern philosophers and social
scientists/historians.

Five papers, some short, some
longer

This course is the
Junior Colloquium in the College of Social Studies. Others
desiring admission ought to have a good grounding in at
least one of the social sciences. Admission by interview.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
