A survey of world literature from the Trojan War to World War II (1000 BC--2000 AD), placing against some monuments of the Western (and Eastern) world(s) modern glosses and modern reflections, showing the dynamism and aptness of outstanding literary works, their historical development and philosophical changes, various methods of analysis, and the enduring strength of the skilled imagination.
