Ecology and Evolution of HIV

The course will cover current issues in the literature of
HIV poplulation biology, including the origin of HIV, the
evolution of virulance within hosts, the optimal mutation
rate for retroviruses, and prospects for vaccine
development. The class meetings will be in seminar format,
in which students will present papers from the recent
literature, with discussion.
MAJOR READINGS
Recent papers from the literature of HIV
population biology.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Presentations of papers from
the literature; one term paper.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
This course is
restricted to students concurrently taking BIOL349
(Evolution) who have a strong interest in population
biology.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
