An optional laboratory for students in ASTR155. The
telescopes and auxiliary equipment will be used to acquaint
students with the practical methods of observational
astronomy.
MAJOR READINGS
None
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Approximately ten laboratory
projects, most requiring nighttime use of a telescope. No
other exams or assignments.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Please note that
this course is only open to students who are taking ASTR155
concurrently. Please also note that it is NOT required of
ASTR155 students. In fact, it should normally only be
elected by students seriously considering a major in
Astronomy. While the idea of learning to use the telescopes
has some appeal to many students, we have found that only
the most highly motivated students can accept the rigors of
observational astronomy (long, cold nights) and do well in
the course.
