American Architecture and Urbanism 1770-1914

This course considers the development of architecture and
urbanism in the United States from the late 18th through
the early 20th century. Major themes include the
relationship of American to European architectures, the
varied symbolic functions of architecture in American
political, social, and cultural history, and the emergence
of American traditions in the design of landscapes and
planning for modern cities.

Prior completion of
ARHA101 is helpful, though this course is not a formal
prerequisite.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
