Fundamentals of Cultural Anthropology: Boundaries and Borders in Anthropology
ANTH102 FA

Next Offered in 9899 FA

This seminar introduces anthropology through the study of borders and boundaries defining groups, institutions, territories, and nationalities. We will analyse cultural change in ethnographies about group boundary formation and negotiation, about population movements and border-crossings, and about symbols and rituals marking group membership, gender, class, and life stages. Students will explore disciplinary boundaries by putting anthropological theories and methods into practice for a short ethnographic fieldwork project.
