Current Issues in Global and International Feminisms

This seminar will examine a range of issues and problems in
third world, US, and European feminist movements of the late
twentieth century. These movements will be situated in
historical, cultural, and international contexts with
attention to the various roles played by nationalism, the
rise of religious fundamentalism, Western cultural
imperialism, and global economic restructuring. The class
will also consider the transformation of contemporary
second wave feminism in the West by global and international
feminist perspectives.
MAJOR READINGS
To be announced, including Jayawardena,
Mohanty, Spivak, Harvey, Said.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
No exams. Short essays, oral
presentations, and a final research paper are required.

Unless
preregistered students attend the first class meeting or
communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first
class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE:
Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the
Registrar's Office.
