An in-depth examination of the process of designing costumes
for dance and theater, through the investigation of selected
texts and musical compositions. The topics covered will
include the production design concept, the collaborative
artistic process, script analysis, the visualization of
character, styles of costume design, costume history and
research, basic design, rendering, fabrics, and
production organization.
MAJOR READINGS
Both contemporary and classical texts and
music, which might include:
Sophocles, OEDIPUS REX
Moliere, THE MISANTHROPE
Muller, MEDEA PLAYS
Fornes, FEFU AND HER FRIENDS
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Weekly assignments. Final
design project.
