Sociology of American Minorities

This course will assess the struggles of minority groups
to achieve educational and occupational aspirations, to
obtain social and economic rewards, and to address problems
of racism and discrimination. We will then examine the
social construction of racial and ethnic identities over
time, the efforts of minority groups to express and preserve
collective meanings, memories and values, and the structural
and cultural factors that have influenced the experiences of
different generations.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
