What kinds of conditions prompt people to organize for
change? What kinds of social factors enable them to
organize effectively? What kinds of strategies do they
employ? The course will look at major theories of social
change and consider movements based on class, race, gender,
ethnicity and other forms of collective identity.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Four short papers (2-3 pages)
on course topics and a research paper, 12-15 pages long.

Unless
preregistered students attend the first class meeting or
communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first
class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE:
Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the
Registrar's Office.
