The course is designed to effect the leap into more "natural" use of language both by intensive and extensive reading of texts; some literary, some journalistic. We will read a novel, write weekly compositions and record segments in the language lab. There will be several translation projects: from Russian into English and back again, as well as from English into Russian and back. We will also compare several translations of one text, in and out of Russian and English.
