This First-Year-Initiative seminar will introduce the methods and scholarship that anthropologists bring to the study of Judaism. Some supervised fieldwork, along with readings dealing with Jewish rituals, praying communities, and traditional forms of learning, will provide students with an understanding of the social dimensions of religion.
