Studies in the varieties of Christian life and thought in
the European Middle Ages from the 9th through the 16th
centuries, with special focus on the 13th century. Primary
attention will be given to texts by spiritual writers and by
philosophical theologians. Also considered: church art and
architecture, the Papacy, monastic and mendicant orders,
crusades, reform movements, church-state conflicts, and
hierarchies ecclesiastical, civil, philosophical and
celestial.
