A study of the literature of ancient Israel with a special
emphasis on historical background, narrative and literary
conventions and the religious structure of the Bible. In
this critical study of the religion of ancient Israel the
methods of historical research, cross-cultural anthropology,
and literary theory will be employed in order to understand
how the Bible reflects, responds to, and shapes a people's
social, political and economic circumstance.

Three-hour final and five
two-page papers.
