PSYC367

Seminar On Consciousness Development
PSYC367 SP

Next Offered in 9798 SP

What is raised during "consciousness-raising?" The course will emphasize a social rather than individual definition of consciousness, i.e. the relation of individual development to historical development. Hence, in discussing the lack of consciousness, emphasis will be put on alientation rather than Freud's "unconscious," or so-called "altered states of consciousness." In other words, this is NOT a course for the study of drugs, yoga, etc. Material will be drawn from autobiography, biography, oral history, and psychological theory.

MAJOR READINGS

Will be tailored to individual students.
