This seminar provides an in-depth examination of developmental, cognitive and linguistic disorders from neuropsychological, developmental and cognitive perspectives. The course covers various forms of mental retardation and learning disabilities. Featured topics include autism, specific language impairment, Down syndrome, Fragile X, Williams syndrome, PKU, nonverbal learning disabilities, attention deficit disorder, and dyslexia. Students will study the theoretical underpinning and consequences of these diagnostic categories, will read the research literature with critical eye, and will gain some familiarity with assesssment tools.

Weekly response papers, a midterm, final and a research paper.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly wth the instructor prior to the firs class, they will be dropped form the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
