PSYC276

Psychology of the Consumer
PSYC276 SP

Next Offered in 9798 SP

This course examines the field of consumer behavior, an area of applied psychology which focuses on understanding all aspects of our involvement with the products and services of everyday life. To predict what people will buy, use, or consume, consumer psychologists draw on the array of disciplines: social psychology, research design and analysis, perception/cognition, among others. In this course, some of the relevant social psychological theories and empirical studies that illuminate consumer behavior are explored. Topics such as attitude formation, persuasion, conformity, and leadership are considered. Special emphasis in the course will be placed on how actual companies make use of consumers' opinions to shape products that satisfy their needs and wants.
