Lecture course on psychological development in human
infants. Will include discussion of research findings on:
biological influences on prenatal brain development;
babbling and pre-language communication; sensorimotor
intelligence; perceptual abilities; beginnings of emotional
development; attachment; social knowledge.
MAJOR READINGS
Fogel, A. (1997) INFANCY: INFANT, FAMILY, &
SOCIETY (3rd ed.)
A few assigned journal articles and chapters from other
sources.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Midterm and final exam;
term paper (literature review or write-up of infant
observations; 10-12 pages).
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
This is a core
course in Developmental Psychology.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
