Beginning Philosophy

This is a small discussion, writing intensive introduction
to philosophy for frosh. There will be intensive study and
reading of some major classical works (for example, works by
Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, etc.), as well as some
contemporary works. There will be a good deal of writing.
MAJOR READINGS
Some classical works and some contemporary
works.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
A number of short papers,
followed by some longer ones.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Students must come
to class having STUDIED (not just read) the material and
must be prepared to discuss it.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
