Music 471 and 472 is a two-semester ensemble course in the
musical arts of the Trinidadian steelband. Students learn
to perform on steelband instruments and study the social,
historical, and cultural context of the ensemble. We also
address issues of theory, acoustics, arranging, and
composing. Readings, recordings, and video viewings
supplement in-class instruction. The ensemble will present
public performances.
