An introduction to the rich performing arts and culture of
Indonesia, focusing on the genres of Java and Bali. The
approach will be descriptive and comparative, integrating
music, theater, and dance. A principal theme will be the
differing experiences of decolonization and modernization in
two neighboring and related traditional cultures.
