Study in areas not offered by a Private Lessons Teacher in the Music Department may be available. MAJOR READINGS: EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS: Requirements set by each individual instructor. This course requires 12 one-hour lessons per semester. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS: This course is open to undergraduate, graduate, and Graduate Liberal Studies students. Each instructor sets his criteria for accepting students. Private Lessons is a Permission of Instructor course. There is no computer Preregistration or In-Semester registration. Students must pay lesson fees in addition to course tuition. The fee will be $600 per semester. This course may be repeated for credit. PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS REGISTRATION PROCEDURES Audition/Registration/Scheduling January 15 and January 16 1. All students meet with teachers during this time according to schedules posted on the bulletin board in the Music Studios Lobby. a) No appointment necessary b) Registration forms will be available during the audition/registration/scheduling time. 2. Teachers will formulate teaching schedules and post them on the bulletin board and window in the Music Studios Lobby January 16. a. Students are responsible for checking the teaching schedule prior to the first day of lessons. b. A lesson missed because of not knowing the schedule will be listed as UNEXCUSED and will NOT be made up. Students will be billed for this missed lesson. LESSONS BEGIN MONDAY JANUARY 19 3. The Coordinator will register all students with the Registrar according to signed Private Lessons Registration Forms received from each teacher. a. DROP/ADD FORMS ARE NOT ACCEPTED for private lessons registration. 4. Students missing the official Audition/Registration/ Scheduling period may enroll in the lessons programs during the remainder of the black Drop/Add period if there is room in a teacher's schedule. FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR LESSONS APPLICATIONS DUE BY NOON, FRIDAY, JANUARY 16 LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. Financial support may be available for lessons. Check details posted on the Music Studios bulletin board for current financial support policies. NOTE - Basic Eligibility Requirements a) must be eligible for University Financial Aid with a need base of MORE THAN $10,000. b) must be studying with a Private Lessons Teacher for full academic credit. (Note: Students studying with Undergraduate Student Teachers are not eligible.) c) must have completed one or more semesters at 100 level on same instrument (voice) as applying for financial support, or as an alternative, must have completed AT LEAST 12 one-hour private lessons with a Private Lessons Teacher during a single semester or one academic year on the same instrument (voice) as applying for financial support. The deadline is Friday, January 16, at 12:00 noon. Applications will be available in Room 109 Music Studios Monday, January 12. Students WILL NOT NOTIFIED DIRECTLY, but should check with the Coordinator, Friday, January 23, for results. Note - Some beginning students are placed with Student Teachers by the supervising Teacher.
