Aspects of the Biochemistry of Cancer

This course will discuss some of the classical and current
observations concerning alterations in biochemical metabolic
pathways that occur upon cellular transformation. The
mechanism of action of various mitogens such as growth
factors and phorbal esters and their effects on protein
phosphorylations, changes in membrane components and
alterations in carbohydrate metabolism are among the topics.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Some exposure to
biochemistry is required. This requirement may be satisfied
by having had a biochemistry course or an appropriate cell
biology course.
