Set Theory: Ordinal and cardinal numbers; the
Schroder-Bernstein theorem; some of Cantor's theorems (e.g.,
|Q| < |R|, |A| < |P(A)|; the continuum problem.
Metric space topology: Definitions, compactness criteria,
completion; applications.
Beyond metric spaces: If time permits and if there is
student demand.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
One hour exam, one three-hour
final examination, 8-10 homework assignments.

Criteria for
admission to course: Successful completion of MATH222 or the
equivalent is desirable, though not mandatory if other
credentials are in order.
