Close reading of modern literary texts. The content and cultural contexts of the readings will be examined through critical discussion in Japanese.

Oral and written presentations, written assignments, quizzes and exams.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Placement test. Students should have completed JAPN218, or the equivalent. A year of study at the Associated Kyoto Program usually but not always prepares a student for this class. Regular attendance and participation are required.
