The Political Novel, 1700-1900

Eighteenth- and nineteenth-century attitudes towards
politics, economics, society and history will be examined
from novels which directly critique an existing society as
well as those which present an alternative, sometimes
fantastic, reality.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Three papers.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
One novel will be
read each week.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting
or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the
first class, they will be dropped from the class list.
NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form
to the Registrar's Office.
All students NOT in COL must take this course for a letter
grade.
