An introduction to Marx's theoretical works, with an emphasis on his views of the relationship between social and political power. We will trace the development of his theory from the early critique of religion, speculative philosophy, bourgeois politics, and the state, through his study of civil society and political economy, to his conceptions of class and class consciousness, production and reproduction, capital and the labor theory of value. Some of his political pamphlets will also be examined to see the relation of Marxist theory to political analysis and action.
